Not Much Happening

I hope the wickets this season are as hard as the outfield has been this week, but at least the forecast is for warmer weather the coming week – might even be able to get some work done on the ground.

Looking forward to rolling the square, getting it raked for the first time and then a cut – we’ll know what we are going to play on then, fingers crossed.

Februarys Here

Finally, the outfield roller is repaired and when this snow thaws we should be able to roll the outfield a few times. Then it’s chain harrowing (if I can borrow one from somewhere) and then start cutting to get it down ready for the season. The pitch mower goes away on Tuesday and then we can get the gangs repaired.

Pitch roller is running (just- took me 2 hours to start it) so I should be able to start rolling the square later this month.

February is the month when the work on the ground starts in earnest when the weather allows you to. Lets hope for some decent weather – no more snow please.

See you all at the AGM (Wed 8th Feb).

And Another Season

The start of another season for the Ground staff – not that we ever stopped. January means starting all the machines and repair the ones that are being awkward like the antique roller.

Jobs to do include services for the pitch mower and gangs, replace the tension springs and taking a link out of the drive chain of the roller and stripping and rebuilding a carburetor on one of the rotaries. Then we can start on the square and the outfield.

What makes it worthwhile is that the players entertained us a lot last season with the way they played and we are hoping for the same this season coming. Can’t wait.
